What happens if my car is stolen?

First of all, be prepared to wait. Your insurance company will likely impose a waiting period to give the police time to recover your car. After this period is over—usually 21 days—and if your car is still missing, you'll receive a settlement shortly afterward. Should the police recover your car, the insurance company will review a repair estimate before deciding next steps.

When it comes to replacement transportation, if your policy is so provisioned, you may be required to pay for a rental car out of your own pocket, then submit a claim to the insurance company.
